Employee Spotlight: Molly

When Molly was 10 years old she started saving birthday and allowance money to purchase her own iPad. Determined to create graphics and art on her own, Molly’s stylus upgraded to an Apple Pen over the years as she dreamed of finding work to support her talent. Fast forward to today and that same Molly has her dream job creating graphics and assisting with finishing for our bustling Production area. Molly joined Performance Signs in 2022 as Production and Design Assistant, learning the ins and out of creating logos, fleet wraps, and texts for signs. Molly brings a touch of youth, playfulness, and perspective to the team.

Molly’s fresh talent and attention to detail immediately impressed the team. During one of her first interactions with Katherine, Molly needed to create a vector-based design from an image handed to her. Molly laughs recalling how long it took for her to design something that today would take her only a fraction of the time. Becoming accustomed to the more straightforward use of vectors rather than images meant Molly needed to deconstruct images she had grown familiar with creating. She admits how easy it is to find vectors in everyday images now and finds herself skipping out on adult chores at home to keep creating for her own joy. Constantly grateful for the opportunities to sharpen her skills and learn both the Design and Production sides of creating are even easier in the new space. Her favorite part of the new shop is her personalized design space. Having a desk and area built for exactly what she needs makes her more productive and able to focus for each client’s project.

“Our new space is so homey and welcoming. I got to setup my area in a way that helps me create and design. By being comfortable in my space, clients get the best of me and my attention to details. I love each part of my space and how it helps me find new ways to create in order to serve our clients.”

Molly often creates designs at her sparkly new desk but regularly pivots to the Production area to assist Jon and Ken with finishing. Molly’s proximity to colleagues serves her well in the new shop. She can quickly converse with Brianna concerning project details, with Jon about whether a design will work, and with Ken concerning finished application and how a completed piece will look. Molly admits the new shop has an improved layout. This allows the whole team to have more consistent interactions with each other from the moment a project begins until handing off a completed banner or sign to a client. This consistency keeps Molly focused and efficient, which benefits customers at the same time.

Serving clients and continual learning keeps Molly engaged and up-to-date on the latest methods working with vinyl, signs, and banners. The new space at Performance Way allows Molly’s Production side to operate more efficiently. Increased Production space means it is far more open than the former shop. Another benefit of the new space Molly already notices is the increased amount of storage and ease of access to all materials. She no longer requires step-stools or waiting until a long-armed-teammate walks by to grab vinyl rolls for her.

“It may seem small to be so excited about the new storage system we have, but I love it! It helps all of us in Design and Production stay focused and on task. We’re not juggling so many materials in a small space anymore. Having instant access to everything we need means clients’ needs are met more efficiently.”

As with any artist, Molly will jump through a window in a moving car to see her designs around town. She thoroughly enjoys pointing out her creations and which teammates she collaborated with on the designs. A self-proclaimed “foodie” it is no surprise her favorite projects are food truck designs. She gets a huge kick out of food truck colors, the amount of work involved in creating an eye-catching design, and the fun she has making it all work together. Molly grins wide recalling the first time she saw her own design on a food truck in public. Whether someone is in the car with her or not, her excitement about seeing her craft on display around town motivates her to continue creating.  Molly could only appreciate them more if they all included hot tea and boneless wings.

One of her favorite non-food-truck projects was for the West Virginia Wildlife Rescue wall mural. The thought and care necessary to focus on such an involved task meant Molly spent dedicated time creating and planning innovative techniques for this large project. She quickly remembers that this piece included shades of beige, burgundy, and black coming together to create a show stopping piece to be proud of. Since Molly enjoys hiking the nearby mountains and spending time outside, the Wildlife Rescue project became personal for her as she wanted to do her best work for a worthwhile organization.

Molly currently lives in Ruckersville but grew up in nearby Madison. A lifelong local, she enjoys seeing work on display that she and her teammates created and brought to fruition. Working in the encouraging and fun environment of Performance Signs motivates Molly for every new project. She knows her talent and her ideas are valued. She has a hard time believing that this is her real actual life because it is everything 10-year-old Molly wanted. Turning a hobby into a dream career leaves Molly grateful and always ready for her next challenge.
